Long long ago there lived an Asura King named Mahabali. He ruled Kerala and during his reign all the subjects were happy. Peace and harmony was there. There was no theft or poverty in the land. Every one lived in harmony.Mahabali turned Kerala into an heaven in earth. All the Devas where jealous of Mahabali. Unlike the other Asura war lords Mahabali was very powerful and followed the path of Dharma. Mahabali decided to do a Yaga to make him undefeatable. This news made Indra the King of Devas upset. He approached Lord Vishnu for help. Vishnu gave word to Indra that he will re incarnate as Vamana and destroy Mahabali. Vishnu reincarnated as Vamana and came to mahabali on the day of the Yaga in the form of a Brahmin boy. He asked Mahabali for three feet ofland and Mahabali granted the Brahminboy’s wish. The moment he approved the wish the boy began to grow he grew till sky. With the first feet he measured earth, heaven and the underworld. Withthe second feet he measured all the oceans and sky and asked the king where to keep the third feet. The humble king to save his word asked to keepthe feet on his head and measure the third.Vamana pushed Mahabali to the underworld with his feet. Before pushing him down Vamana asked Mahabali whether hehave any last wish. And Mahabali asked the lord to grandhim permission to visit his people of Kerala once in a year. The Lord granted the wish saying you can visitthem once in a year and that day will be celebrated as Onam. The belief continues and the people of Kerala celebrate the day of Onam every year pushing aside sadness and problems not to disappoint there visiting King.

Happiness
Adam an engineer who is working with one of the top companies in Chennai is not happy
about his life.There are lot of things for him to be sad.Sick and tired of daily routine job.
Everyday the same life and nothing new.He was also not satisfied with the way his life was.
He always wished to have a BMW sedan or a Mercedes Benz but he have to adjust with his small
Maruti car as his income didnt allow him to get a sedan.He love to party all the night with lot
of girl friends around him but he was unhappy as he didnt have any girl friends.He loved to
have a huge mansion but just as other things his income didnt allow him to get a mansion but
have to live in his single bed room apartment.These were some of the griefs and sorrows of
Adam.
One Friday while he was returning home he was thinking about his unhappiness and he became
so upset thinking about everything.He stopped next to a bar and boozed heavily to forget
his grief.He got drunken heavily and started to drive his car drunken.He was passing through
a very lonely road which was filled with darkness.The time in Adam's watch was half past
twelve.In his unconscious mind still the the thought of his unhappiness was running.All of a
sudden lot of questions popped up in his mind.Who is the reason for all this unhappiness?
What is the reason for his unhappiness? He himself found the answer for the question - "GOD".
His unconscious mind said God is the reason for all this unhappiness.He did'nt give me enough
money to have all my wishes.His mind felt with anger.He stopped his car in the middle of
the lonely road.He felt like asking God Why did he did this to him? HE got out of his car
looked at the dark sky and shouted " God come down here I have some questions to ask you".
He looked at the sky and screamed again "How dare you stay there so calmly after ruining my life".
He screamed again like a mad man "Come down here I found you".
All of a sudden a Bright light flashed in his eyes.There is a light flashing in Adams face.
Covering his face Adam shouted again "Switch off your headlight,don't you have sense".
He opened his eyes slowly and the light is still there.A sound from the no where came to Adam's
ears "Son".Shocked to hear the sound Adam opened his eyes and looked around.There was no one
around him but the light was still there. Adam was slightly scared.After silence for a few seconds
the sound came again "Son".Adam was shocked to hear the sound this time and he felt as if the sound
came from the sky.He looked up and could'nt see anything other than the light.
With all his courage he asked "Who are you?" and there was an answer for the question "I am
The Almighty".Adam asked in trembled voice " What do you want?".The Almighty answered gently
"You were calling for me,so I came to you".Adam felt as if all these things are happening as
he is in hallucination.HE asked again "Oh ..k..So you are God,I have some questions for you"
The Almighty replies"Tell me Son".Adam listed all his unhappiness and asked God why did you
do this to me.After listening to Adam ,The Almighty replied "Do you think these are really
big problems".Adam shouted "yes".
The Almighty asked Adam to close his eyes and open and see whats happening before him.Adam closed
his eyes and opened and he felt as if he was in some other place.He could see a group of people
fighting for a piece of bread.Next to the group he could see malnutritioned kids crying for food.
He felt pity for the kids as he could see all the bones and ribs of the kids through there skin.
Seeing them Adam just closed his eyes and when he opened he saw himself in a different place.
He saw himself in a desert where he could see a group of people searching for drinking water.
He could see few of them are on the ground and struggling to get up from tiredness.Adam felt
helpless.He closed his eyes again and opened it and found himself in a place where people are
crying sitting beside there beloved ones.Adam could see lot of destroyed buildings and could
see the dead people in between the remains of the buildings.The sight was so horrifying and looked
as if he is in a place hit by an earthquake.His Eyes filled with tears and he called " GOD".
As soon as he called God he is back in the old lonely dark street next to his car.All the
hallucination of the alcohol is gone.He looked at the sky and there was no light but his eyes were
filled with tears.He rushed to the car and drove back to his home.
As soon as he reached home, he got inside the house and locked the house.He sat on the sofa and
thought about what happened in the road.And some time he slept.The next day he woke up late.
He thought about what happened last night.He was wondering whether it was a dream or it happened really.
Then he thought about his problems and he felt they were not at all problems when compared to the sights
which he saw yesterday.He thought himself " I have food to eat,shelter,a good job and still I
want more comfort and pleasures..but more than fifty percent of the people in the world are struggling
for food and shelter and finally there life".Those people will be happy if they get food
atleast once in a day.He felt ashamed of himself and felt "I have everything and I am not happy"
Again tears rolled from his eyes thinking about the world.
He had a shower changed his dress and went to the road where he stopped his car last night.
He reached the place.The road was not busy at all.He stopped his car on the side of the road
and looked the sky,it was sunny.He told to himself "I dont know whether I had a dream yesterday or not,
I dont know whether it was some thing crazy that went through my mind when I was drunk but now
I know that I have everything that is needed and I will do some thing to the needy world and with
a smile in his face he said "we will work together".
